A show that is almost years 16 old at the time of posting, which still messes with my head. This was the year I discovered the band.
The gig's place on Editors' timeline is evident by the setlist, being Back Room heavy and including The Weight of the World and Bones, which wouldn't be officially drop until the AEHAS album was released the following year. There are 2 obvious differences on TWOTW when played alongside the final studio take. Ed's drum intro is longer on this one and Chris's guitar work is slightly different leading into the first chorus.
The version of Fall that's played here sounds absolutely huge, and that's really a testament to the four people playing. They were still a small band playing in lower sized venues in 2006 (Mr Smith remarks on the water dripping from the ceiling which is, presumably, the sweat from all the punters), but the potential to go further and expand their audience and sound were apparent even then. When you're producing songs like Fall, The Weight of the World and Camera at such an early step in your development then greater things are unavoidable, and so it's proven to be the case.
On the downside, You Are Fading has an unwanted companion; the foul silence that follows an equipment failure midway through the track. It kicks in at two minutes and twenty two seconds (spooky!), the point in the song where Chris needs to be heard because essentially he's the only one playing. However, on balance it doesn't really detract from what was a very good night out in Seattle, here's a chance to check it out for yourselves. Enjoy the music ;)
