The Nashville Videos 2013 (Complete Collection)

At the beginning of 2013, Editors began to post video teasers of the recording sessions for The Weight of Your Love in Nashville. This is the entire 5 film collection, presented here as a single clip. As with the previous collection of videos they made for the Every Conversation Within You website, these films were shot by Hand Held Cine Club.  The timespan of them being published was from the beginning of January until March.

The videos chronicle a time in the band's history that was chaotic, but slowly becoming more stable.  After the well documented and painful departure of Mr Urbanowicz in April of the previous year, Editors had become a 5-piece, with the addition of Justin Lockey as guitarist and Elliott Williams on guitar, keys and backing vocals. There was also a new label in the form of PIAS, as Kitchenware had closed its doors. Sony, who were their parent label from the Kitchenware days wouldn't even entertain the idea of new demos by the band after Mr Urbanowicz was gone, a reminder of the more dispassionate and ruthless nature of the music "business".
When the films first arrived online, fans still didn't know about the tracklisting, or even what kind of sound the album would have. It was rumoured that this would be a more guitar-based collection of songs after the electronic sounds of In This Light and on This Evening, and the Nashville clips certainly seemed to suggest that. There was also clear evidence of strings being used on some of the tracks. The TWOYL sessions were another first for the band, as they decamped to the States to record with Jacquire King as producer. These videos don't just document the recording sequence, but also 5 people building a new band from the ground up.
Among the teasers and brief glimpses of the band at work, and lots of shots of the equipment and instruments being used, was footage of Mr Lay performing Piano Man by Billy Joel at a Karaoke bar. It's wonderful in its weirdness. Never has a man whose public persona is so quiet and relaxed seemed so different, and it's proof that as much as fans may think they know their favourite artistes, they're probably way off.

I hope you enjoy the films as much as I did the first time around, the only difference being that you don't have to wait impatiently between each installment!

brought to you with lots of lemming-love :) x
