That gig with that new song. This show was recorded and shared by ziggyswoon, and for that I am truly grateful. There's nothing worse than being a fan of a band and knowing that they played new material, but you missed it. It's like an itch you can't scratch. These are the times when you rely on good folks recording the moments so you can experience them too. So thank you, ziggyswoon. Files are being shared here in their original FLAC format in accordance with the taper's wishes.
Points to note as you listen, there's a momentary lyrical screw up during Formaldehyde at around 2 minutes and 40, and the sound system briefly craps out during Sugar at 3 minutes 40. In terms of the running order, I think it's quite telling that this set is very heavy with material from the later albums, with only Munich making an appearance from The Back Room. Perhaps a statement of Editors V2 really owning their musical legacy and leaning more heavily on that, and their future, rather than their past glories?
The Pulse is a slow burner, I reckon. It starts off very much like Camera, with sparse instrumentation and Mr Smith singing. Over its 6 minute lifespan, however, it grows into an absolutely percussive monster which really gives Mr Lay a chance to do his thing. It wouldn't have sounded out of place on In Dream at all, as it has all those electronic elements in place. Now, of course, the band have opened themselves up to another question they'll probably get sick of answering; "When will we get a studio take?". Further to that, I wonder if any more of the "lost tracks" from the In Dream sessions are going to appear in the future? Only Editors know.....
