After a couple of months where the tumbleweeds blew across the "Editors Instagram" posts here at the Archive, there's proof of life being offered once more. As the band edge closer to the festival stages, and the dates with that bunch of cool cats from Wales, the promotional materials have begun arriving. This means that of the 10 photos in this collection, 8 of them are all tour posters. I know that 10 snaps doesn't seem like a lot but the significance of the sentiment behind them, namely that Editors will be back and playing live shortly, should give you a bounce in your day as we sit just over a month away from the beginning of it all.
The other main takeaways from March were that Elliott deleted all of the photos on his Instagram account and started over, and Mr Smith appears to have bailed out on Twitter. Appropriately, given Tom's reluctance to haul his private life out into the light for public scrutiny (see this post for an example of that, or the prolonged awkwardness of this one), it makes total sense that he did. You would also suspect that it was no kind of fun being as ill as he was for the past few months, and having to do it with the full knowledge and attention of complete strangers monitoring his progress. It's something of which, as a fan, that I'm certainly guilty of but it comes from a place of genuine human concern rather than digging for gossip. These may have been factors in pushing him away from social media and back into the shadows of privacy again. As a performer with a public profile I would think it's tempting to try and keep as much of your world as possible to yourself and twitter is, unfortunately, an open door into it. However, it is one which you can certainly close.
Plus, I would imagine there's only so many times you can read comments unrelated to what you post, like "Why the hell haven't you played (insert town/city here) on your tour?!?!?!!?" before it starts getting you down. Whatever the case, at the time of writing Mr Smith and Twitter are in a trial separation after a conscious cyber-uncoupling. Will he be back? Only he can say.
