This is an opportunity to experience what was Nicholas Willes' first official farewell as an Editor in September of 2014. During the latter half of that year, Elliott was on sabbatical from the band while he did his own thing as YdotOdotU and Mr Willes stepped in. This Hamburg concert was actually his last gig as a part of the TWOYL campaign, and that could have been the end of his involvement in the band. However, the fluid nature of the current lineup means that he was able to return in 2015 as a replacement for Justin who was on leave and taking care of "family mathematics" (multiplication and addition).
Someone Says has an slightly extended intro here, but it barrels forward
at such a hectic pace that it still finishes 9 seconds faster than its recorded cousin. Same with Bullets, which also manages to end 9 seconds ahead of the Back Room
version even though it has a new outro. Editors were playing this set
like someone just remembered they forgot to turn the oven off in the
tour bus.
Other highlights include:-
- Tom making a point of sarcastically telling the crowd that Justin is from The North not once but twice during the Bricks and Mortar and Bones intros
- The sound of a spaceship landing in your ears at the start of Life as a Ghost
- Tom very deliberately accentuating on the "get fucked" line in BRM=BD
- The unstoppable force of Nothing
- The creepy strings intro as the band walk onstage
- A take of The Weight that is so confidently fragile and clear it's like Tom's playing in the room with you
