For Mari and the Italian Pop Kids
The strange thing about this broadcast is that the version of Papillon here was reposted on the Virgin Radio Italy site as a single clip, but the other two clips were taken offline. If you want to see what I mean, go here. Even more odd is that they shared it in better quality than it was the first time around as you'll be able to see in comparison. The session featured an appearance by Mr Smith and Mr Urbanowicz at the Virgin Radio Italy studios in October of 2009. It originally came as three individual videos but I joined them for an easier viewing experience, while also unknowingly at the time saving two of them from complete extinction.
The music itself is very back to basics, as you'd expect, but I think An End Has A Start takes gains something new in this setting. We're also given a view of the boundaries and limitations in certain territories differ around the world. There's no way on Earth that they would be able to play an authentic and accurate version of ERM=BD here in the UK on daytime radio. That little word beginning with "F" would cause moral panic and have people of a sensitive nature running screaming into the streets, demanding some sort of action be taken to curb the potty mouths of these foul long-haired rocker types. In reality though, it's just a six letters arranged together and luckily Italy seems to get that. As such, the take played here is uncensored and as it should be.
The interviews in this little set of clips is extremely telling, given what we now know. Here's what was said regarding ideas for Editors' unrecorded 4th album:-

Tom - "Our next record explores what we've just done, but deeper."
Chris - "I don't really like these things (acoustic guitars), I never have."
A very important statement now in hindsight, considering how things changed between ITLAOTE and The Weight of Your Love. Enjoy the music ;)
