German radio comes up with the goodies once more. This is an almost perfect set from the ITLAOTE touring years, I say almost because The Boxer isn't present. Other than that tiny but sorely missed omission the entire album is covered. I think something that confused people who heard ITLAOTE at first was that it's an exercise in exploring an idea or a tone, rather than an assembly of the most mainstream friendly Editors songs possible. It reminds me a lot of Faith by The Cure. It's an album lover's album, in that you really need to set aside some time and go through it in a single sitting. Something that digital music and streaming services do is remove that need, with fans being able to select a song or two but not getting the experience that the artists intended when they arranged the playlist and selected which numbers to include. Also, if you look at the records they did before this one there were multiple standalone tracks released from them. Sometimes singles were released twice in the case of The Back Room. So perhaps there was a certain expectation that they'd continue in the same direction?
That's a "negative". Editors gonna be Editors.
I'm sharing two versions of the show. One has the station idents still intact for all you purists, and another is the full broadcast cut into separate mp3s with all the dj chatter removed. There's also some bonus material that was originally shared online by a previous contributor and friend to the Archive, homeatberlin, in the form of two video clips shot from right at the front of the pit. Big, big thank you to you for making this available on your youtube channel way back when. Enjoy the music ;)
