Well, the wait is finally over. The new Editors track has been discovered by a friend to the Archive, Mr erik9327 (thank you for ending the insanity, sir). Got it via email this morning from a buddy, and it was indeed available on the PIAS sampler CD.
In terms of sound, Elliott is all over this. It's almost exclusively electronic in nature, and if this is an indicator of what's to come then there's definitely reason to feel happy. Speaking of which, if you were expecting Editors to return with big old smiles on their faces then you may be in for a disappointment (yeah!!!!). Tom's using the higher range of his vocals again, but also some much lower tones. Reminds me a lot of "Afterhours" by the Sisters of Mercy. I imagine this will sound awesome through a giant sound system, at Werchter or somewhere like that.
It occurs to me that there was also a song called Harm on the list of potential titles for E5 (see this post for details). Is that a counterpart to this track? Will it be horribly upbeat and all about flowers and the importance of flossing regularly? Questions, questions.
In terms of what this means for E5 I'm always cautious of gauging a record based on one song, having been stung before on that score ("An Honest Mistake" by The Bravery, for example, is not a fair indicator of the album it's on), and of course we don't really get an idea of Russell and Ed's contributions here as its mostly machine driven. The waiting is hell...
So E5 is now almost a reality, after an awful lot of waiting. It's great to finally have them back again.
