Up next is another fine recording from zeus163, being made available here in its original FLAC format with no alterations in accordance with his wishes. Thank you for sharing, sir :)
This gig took place a week after the gig in Seattle, on the 5th of Feb 2010 (which was also recorded by zeus163 and is online here). As this was part of the promotional campaign for ITLAOTE, the set is heavy with tracks from that album. Unlike the Seattle show, however, this one has no Camera but it does have Walk the Fleet Road. It's strange listening to that particular track now, knowing what we know from the Sony Hi-Res press show that Tom, Russell and Ed spoke at (available to view in full here). Tom was never happy with the ending of the song, specifically the outtro that it would appear was all Chris', feeling that it didn't make any sense. As he says himself:-
"Chris exists in a different world to us three (Tom, Russell, Ed)...melodically"
From my own perspective as someone who enjoys Editors' music, I actually like the ending. It gives the song a kind of grandeur as a closer to the ITLAOTE album. It also confirms, to me anyway, that the musical friction between Tom and Chris was responsible for some great sonic moments. As I've said here before I've long thought of Tom as being able to write these wonderfully catchy, and very polished pop songs. Chris' job seemed to be to roughen up all the smooth edges. He brought the angles.
I suspect that there are many moments in Editors back catalogue, moments that we'll probably never be aware of, that neither Tom or Chris were ever truly 100% personally satisfied with. Purely because of the compromise that being in a band, and therefore a democracy, demands of the people within it. It's never just all about one person, and sometimes an idea is altered to take new perspectives into account which can actually make it stronger, rather than diluting it. The irony being, as in this case, that at least one of the individuals involved disagrees.
