Here's an intimate, acoustic set performed by Mr Smith and Mr Urbanowicz in September of 2009. The tracks here are a healthy mixture of the band's first three albums, with preference being given to In This Light and On This Evening which came out that year. You get a chance to hear Papillon stripped back to the bolts and also Eat Raw Meat, this time without it's pulsing electric heartbeat.
For me, the beauty of Editors songs while Chris was still in the band was that he took all the musically polished surfaces that Tom provided and roughed them up. If you listen to the demo Like Treasure, for example, and then hear how they turned out as final recordings there are these brilliant jagged edges all over them courtesy of Chris' electronics and guitar work.
They really complimented each other as musicians and, as crappy as it is that they aren't working together any more (and it really, really is) I'm just glad we got a chance to hear them while they did. Here's another opportunity to re-live one of those occasions.
Watch out for the moment before Smokers where Mr Smith asks where Mr Lay is in the audience, before giving him a big smile while Mr Urbanowicz, being the master of the witty response, flips him off with the speed of a ninja. You guys. Enjoy the music ;)
