Intro music was something that they've applied a few times during their years on stage, but the one they leaned on from 2012 to 2013 one always felt different. There's a war-drums vibe to the way they introduced themselves to audiences during the TWOYL campaign, almost as if they were preparing to go into a battle of some description. In a sense, they were. There was the inherent desire that all bands have to have their work heard and appreciated, but the additional baggage they carried following Chris' removal only seemed to add to that need to prove themselves even more. I love the idea that there are certain pieces of Editors' music that never really got a conventional release, only existing within the context they were designed to facilitate.
The flamethrowers have made a reappearance during this show. One more element of danger and another chance to see if your favourite band (or the entire front row), end up scorched and in a local hospital by the end of the gig. Thrills! Tom seems particularly animated throughout the set, and throwing himself into the songs more, suggesting that they really are approaching that battle-hardened stage in the touring campaign for TWOYL. I know that technically this is a new band in terms of lineup, but it would appear that the dynamic between them at this show has evolved from the way they were, even just a short while ago at the beginning of the promotional duties for this record. They seem to be gelling as a unit.
We get another classic "Tom Swears" moment during Smokers, and learn what Russell's middle name is when they play All Sparks. There's also an unexplained little chuckle from Mr Smith at the end of Bullets. Additional bonus material comes by way of Tom and Russell doing an interview with 3FM. Check it out, you lovely people:-
