Making The Weight of Your Love (video)

Now available to view here at the Archive, a 30 minute documentary film all about the making of Editors' still unreleased album (but very heavily listened to, oh those plumbing issues!) The Weight of Your Love. Shot in stark black and white, it's got a really heavy vibe hanging over it from the outset. I actually found the first 10 minutes of this video pretty tough going, if I'm honest, as "The Chris Question" is well and truly broached and then put to rest. He was asked to leave the band, and now he's not an Editor any more, and we get to feel sad all over once again.

Please understand that I'm just speculating here, but I would imagine that this situation is a little bit like having a long-term relationship with someone that your family and friends absolutely adore. If you get to a point where you have to break up, you will inevitably be resented and told by those very people that you must be crazy for splitting with such a wonderful individual. But then they didn't have the same kind of relationship with that person that you did, and as such they didn't have the same experiences. To think that, as a unit, Tom, Russell, Ed and Chris were at a stage where they were so unhappy that the only solution was for a founding member of the band to leave must have been absolutely hideous for them all. Tom even says here that ITLAOTE could have been the last Editors album at one stage.  3 albums and then it's all over. What a huge waste that would have been.
Thankfully, as the rest of the film shows, the band managed to pull it out of the fire and get something good together. This story had to have a happy ending after so many years of things being so fraught. As I've said here before lots of time I wish Chris well for the future, and I truly hope he finds his way to wherever he's heading next. Equally, I'm still really happy to still have Editors around and doing their thing once again. Check it out ;)

brought to you with lots and lots of lemming-love :) x
