DVD Megapost #7 - Bologna 23rd November 2007

As an Editors fan, this is another one of those "just how deep into this are you?" moments. If you download absolutely everything here, then there's clearly no hope for you (and may I offer you a warm welcome to the club).

I'm sharing an Editors' show that took place in Bologna on the 23rd November 2007. First up let's begin with a little, tiny warning. It's fan-shot and it was taken from within the crowd by Streetspirit, many thanks to you for sharing. It's got all the shaky-camera and blacked-out screen moments you'd expect from someone who was essentially filming on the outskirts of (or actually at times right inside) the moshpit, but the picture is still pretty damn good. So if you're looking for a professionally shot video with beautiful starwash fades and high-end editing, you should probably check out other posts here at the Archive.

Still there?

Excellent!

Because what we have here is the view from the crowd on the night, exactly as it was and captured by Streetspirit who, very much in the style of GaryUK who's work I've shared here extensively at the blog already, sacrificed his own enjoyment of the gig by several percent to document and share the experience with others. On top of that, the audio is actually so good that I ripped it into mp3s so that any of you folks who aren't fans of the video can still hear the show. The setlist is excellent and the Italian crowd are in full voice. Check out Tom leading them through a singalong in the intros to both Munich and Smokers.

There's a point towards the end of the set where he actually says "Danke!", before quickly changing to "Grazie!". This is of course most likely due to the perils of extensive touring;  never being sure exactly where you are in the world at any given time.
At the time of this gig, Banging Heads was still a new song. Given that it was the most up to date composition we had by the band, there was an inevitable question about its status as representation of future recordings. In This Light and on This Evening was still a couple of years away, and so naturally we were trying to deduce what it would sound like. Banging Heads was not the accurate projection tool that it appeared to be, and I would certainly count myself among those who were fooled into believing that E3 would be guitar driven after hearing it. This, was not the direction they were choosing.

Also look out for the wonderful lost b-side Heads in Bags, one of my favourite Editors songs, which precisely summarises them as a band during the Back Room days of its inception; fast, energetic and very loud. Enjoy the music ;)
