"You owe it to yourself to see how far you can take it...but you don't want to go that far and be shit."
Nervously charming in an awkward situation. That's the way I'd describe Tom in this clip, a lovely little 11 minute backstage interview with Contact Music in 2006. At this stage the band were still grinding out the Back Room campaign, and so they had yet to experience the utter fatigue of being asked the same damn questions over and over again. This shows in the kind of answers that Tom gives here, making it a lot of fun to listen to. There's a certain irony in hearing about the band's equipment not being flown back from Germany for the show they were about to play in Leeds. Where was it stuck?
Munich.
Yep, that's right. Munich. Ho ho! Delicious irony again at the Archive, and it still tastes like smoky olives.
At the very beginning of this clip you are once again provided with an opportunity to test your current level of fanboy/fangirl devotion to Editors. If you find yourself just reading the intro details and not reacting, then you aren't trying hard enough. However, if your response is to go into a rage and scream "It's Editors not The Editors, dammit!" then you are pretty much very, very far down that road of super-fandom. Don't worry though, there are many people just like you out here in the world and this is a condition you can definitely learn to live with. The Lemming Archive is here to help you :)
