The Popworld Collection 2006-2007

While I'm busy updating the links here at the Archive, I've decided to gather three posts together into one just to make things a little more tidy around these parts.  They cover the time period between June 2006 and June 2007, where Editors made 3 very separate (and in one case very weird) appearances on Channel 4's Popworld show here in the UK.

Up first is a performance of Blood from June 2006. The sound is a little bit fuzzy, and I'm not sure if that's down to the mixing or just the overall low quality of the video. Apologies for that. This is a clip that's just over 8 years old, and it's strange seeing Russell standing so utterly still throughout the performance. Now that he's blossomed into a full blown shape-thrower on stage, it's difficult to imagine that this almost-static individual is the same one who now so happy obliges when there's moves to be busted.  It's great fun to look back on this time in the band's history, when they were making their first inroads into the mainstream media and onto television screens around the country.  From these little acorns some mighty big oaks did grow.

Here's a delightfully strange interview from June 2007, when Mr Smith and Mr Urbanowicz appeared on Popworld as part of their Big Ones segment. This is where a musical artiste of the day would be asked a series of increasingly ridiculous questions, in the hopes of getting some cheap laughs. Under the circumstances, they do not disappoint. Ever wondered what delicious irony tastes like? Tom has the answer for you.

The most glaringly obvious point of note in this clip, is that it contains footage of some upper-body dancing that would probably finish the career of any other front-man or guitarist. But not here. If you thought Editors were all black clad, serious and terribly dour then you need to watch this.

Finally in this terrific trio, here's a performance of Smokers which was broadcast exactly one week after their "Big Ones" slot in June of 2007. The band played the single version of the track, which sees it trimmed down in length slightly. It's loud, it's live, it's what Editors do best! Check it out:-

brought to you with lots of lemming-love :) x
