A video from March 2006 next, when Editors appeared on the Saturday morning music show CD:UK to perform All Sparks. The kind of acts that appeared on the program were very much "pop" orientated, with folks like Girl Aloud and Beyonce being guests, and a look at the audience will give you an idea of the show's demographic. It's mostly teenage girls who I would estimate don't normally experience this kind of music either through chouice or just because they didn't know it was there. Maybe one or two of the people there had their horizons expanded slightly to include some pop noire? This has consistently been one of the greatest things about seeing the band wriggling into situations like this one, where they can sneakily gain access into the homes of a lot of people who might otherwise not have encountered them. Like a thief on christmas eve, you might say. Ho ho. Interestingly, the show actually came to an end the same year that Editors played on it, anothe casualty of time and the foolish mistake of allowing such a gloomy bunch of cats into your studio. They bring the grim reaper with them wherever they go, this band.
The tradition of television producers getting far too literal in their interpretations of songs is evident here, as there's also a very small-scale pyrotechnic used in keeping with the song's title. It certainly causes the audience to gasp, or possibly scream that their corneas are burning. They would of course go on to increase the stage effects later on with flamethrowers and confetti cannons at some of their bigger European gigs, but this is one of the earliest incidences of them flirting with the more showbiz nature of presenting their music. Enjoy ;)
