More goodies from our curator of audio artifacts, Mr GaryUK. Many thanks again to you for making this an experience accessible beyond the walls of the venue it was recorded in ;)
Identity is a broad category. Most band's tend to have a city they call home; a place where they underwent the necessary genetic development that led to their birth as a tribe. For Editors, Birmingham is the place that sheltered them from the smoke and mirrors of the hip London scene while they were putting their plans together and developing their nascent abilities. It will always be a place of significance because of that. Sometimes those geographical markers of relevance can extend beyond the "home town", and as I've said before I would also offer Newcastle as a second home to the band because Kitchenware Records was based there. Similarly, Belgium would no doubt claim them because they were one of the first countries in mainland Europe to fully submit as a nation to the pop darkness on offer. Then on a micro level, you have each member of the band who also hail various places and so have their own idea of what it means to return to familiar streets. Why on Earth would I bother mentioning all of this? Well, although Manchester is a destination on a tour itinerary, for one Editor this show really meant something more.

I hope it was everything he wanted it to be.
Musically there were some more changes made to the setlist, with No Sound but the Wind being moved aside and The Weight of World (acoustic) stepping back in. There was no Distance, unfortunately, but luckily we have other recordings that you can check it out on. I'm really enjoying all the subtleties they're applying to the music this time around. Small things that may have otherwise gone unremarked upon but which paint a new colour across those pre-existing canvases. Things like Justin's feedback burst intro to Bones, or the slow organ/guitar intro to You Are Fading (which sounds a lot like Greg Gonzales' dreamy playing on Cigarettes After Sex's records). It's good stuff. Enjoy the music ;)
