Never Lonely in Town - Manchester Apollo 18th October 2018 (GaryUK Recording)

One more gift to the Archive from the gentleman with concealed recording equipment and a ticket to the show, Mr GaryUK. He says of this taping that there are a few audio spikes where the guy on the barrier next to him got a little "exuberant", but even if that's the case the quality is so good that it still doesn't detract from the music. Thanks again, Gary for preserving these markers in Editors' history.

One thing I'm picking up from the recent recordings of the UK tour is how educated the people attending the gigs are. Maybe I walked into this with some preconceptions, based on the crazy reception they've been getting in Europe and beyond. There's also the historical factor of Editors' relationship with the crowds in their homeland. I guess I figured that the UK audiences would be slightly more reserved in their enthusiasm by comparison with places like Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands etc but that's turned out to be incorrect. Also, they haven't really been able to commit to full tour of this country in a while so maybe time would have removed some of their shine?
If anything, things seem to have gone the other way. There has been talk of them being better appreciated at the moment, almost like those that dismissed them a little prematurely were grudgingly having to admit that they got it wrong (and they did). Dom Gourlay over at GigWise even suggested that they are on their way to becoming National Treasures.

Musically, the old favourites are welcomed back and received warmly, but what's most encouraging is that even the most recent songs are now being sung back to the band, word perfectly and at a volume loud enough to hear over amplified vocals and instruments. Have a listen to Magazine here in Manchester, or even the "Hey, Hey" parts of Cold. This is a group of people who have really been experiencing the music, so much that they can remember it at will and put it to use as encouragement and support to the artists who created it. I do hope that the theories are true, and that Editors are finally getting some dues in the UK. The reality of course is that this far down the line the band  probably don't care one way or the other. It's a twisted little world. Enjoy the music ;)
