During 2010 the Archive's chief audio documentarian, GaryUK, went on his own mini-tour following the band from venue to venue and making a recordings of what he heard. This is his capture of a night at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with Editors on the 29th of March 2010. Many thanks again to you, Gary, not only for the travelling but for making your work available to us.
I don't know if it was the acoustics of the venue or just the mixing, but it sounds like Mr Lay is banging away on a set of trash cans for most of this show. The drums still sound percussive but just in a more dirty sort of way, rather than the smooth clean tones you get in a studio version. There were some apparent technical problems over the course of the evening, something Mr Smith says just after Blood:-
"I have a really expensive pedal board here, and it's turning itself off and on in the middle of songs. This really, really pisses me off."
His voice then gets a little muffled but this appears to be followed by a reference to Peter Andre, of all people, and his preference to Editors using synths over guitars. Weird. He also took time before Munich to bemoan the fact that The Libertines had gotten back together at that time.
"So The Libertines have reformed. Sigh"
Enjoy the music ;)
