Less than 24 hours removed from a wonderful Werchter experience, here's the band playing in front of a French audience at Arras Main Square Festival. I suspect there was slightly less mud involved in this gig than recent ones, some of which took place in fields during the monsoon season, making it a much more pleasant experience for those fans in the crowd that are in the mood for some dark instrospective pop.
The Pulse is slotting in nicely during these shows, and seems to have settled at position 7 on the setlist. Even on this occasion, where the brevity of Editors' stage time means a drastically reduced running order, they still manage to give it some attention which could be a gauge of its status as a potential studio candidate. Remember, this happened with Bones way before it made it on to the AEHAS album. It made sustained and fairly regular live manifestations so that by the time it came to recording it, we all knew the words and the arrangement. Of course, both of these were changed by the band in the studio, much to our horror. How we longed for those extra "Retreats!" to be put back in and, to their credit, they indulged the whining masses and did just that during the later tours. People power!
So does this mean that The Pulse will end up on the next Editors record? Maybe. Things aren't ever certain with this band (remember how sure and positive we were about how Nothing would sound when it was eventually recorded?), but the fact that they're giving so much public acknowledgement to it is surely a positive signal that something is going to happen? I hope so because it's really growing on me. Enjoy the music ;)
