Fragments from the Isle of Wight Festival 13th June 2010

Here's the all too short televised highlights of Editors' 2010 set at the Isle of Wight Festival. You get Smokers, Munich and Papillon plus a short interview to start everything off, with Fearne Cotton committing the unforgivable sin of introducing them as The Editors. Oh mercy! While the video only has 3 songs, I have two more from this show available as mp3s.  I believe they were broadcast on Absolute Radio at the time which is where I ripped them from. There's also a couple of interviews and some photos from the official festival website.

It's peculiar watching Papillon being played in 2010 because it still has that little area between the end of the first verse and the chorus that seems...uncomfortably vacant. It's like it was always waiting for something to bridge the gap between "Feel love when it's shone" and "It kicks like a sleep twitch". Once Tom started baiting the crowds at that point it seemed like it increased the build up to the chorus coming in, whether it was to tell them he couldn't hear them or just to ask if they were there in increasing volume. In 2010, they were still working out that little bit of live restructuring but since then it's almost doubled in length and is still one of their most popular live tracks primarily because of the amount of crowd involvement in it.

"Raise your hands ight now..."

Funny hearing them discussing what would end up being The Weight of Your Love, and how they wanted to further explore the world they'd created with ITLAOTE. The fickle guiding hand of fate, however, would have very different ideas... Enjoy the music ;)
