This is an interview conducted with Mr Smith and Mr Urbanowicz as part of the band's first trip to New Zealand in 2008. Juice TV, the music station who hosted the chat have since closed for business, another institution that the band have outlasted through longevity.
What I find fascinating about this clip is the way they talk about their new album, which at the time was An End Has a Start, but you'd swear they were describing the record that followed that one. I'm thinking especially of the question Chris tackles about the sound of the band right at the beginning of this clip. What he says doesn't necessarily correspond with the songs on AEHAS. However, if you imagine that he's being asked about In This Light and On This Evening, then what he says fits perfectly. Could this have been an early indicator of the direction that he was already thinking of for E3, where Editors took the restraints off themselves and started pushing things further in the studio and with their songwriting in general? Friday afternoon speculation, folks.
Oh, and the interviewer loses all of her credibility points for not being aware of who Echo and the Bunnymen are. That's just unforgivable. The rules of this game are harsh but fair, I feel. Check it out ;)
