Dundee 11th March 2010 (FLAC Audio)

"I'm just checking that we're all OK...." - Tom prior to Lights

I don't have any taper details for this one, and I can't remember how it found its way into my possession. So if this was you, thank you.

Perfect sound, a tasty setlist and the occasional gremlin make this show one that you'll definitely want to listen to. Candidly,  In This light and On This Evening is my favourite Editors album and as a summary of the touring era surrounding it, this one has it all; Last Day, Life as a Ghost, The Big Exit, Bones (swoooooon) etc etc. For an audience recording this is up there with the kind of thing that GaryUK posts, such is the exceptional quality.

Fun points in this show? Mr Smith changes the lyric in ITLAOTE to "Dundee's become the most beautiful thing I've seen", and then adding "I hope life, Dundee, is good for you" during Bricks and Mortar. I love those bending notes from Chris during Escape the Nest, more so because I haven't heard that track live for so long. There's some lovely little echo effects on Tom's vocals during Life as a Ghost and then there's the sad, expansive head-down resignation of a relationship in crisis that Camera seems to chronicle.

There were ominous signs of a technical disaster that never fully manifested on the night, as you'll hear Mr Urbanowicz's guitar crapping out at the start of In This Light... and only fully returning just after the second verse of Lights. It disappears again at the end of the set, which facilitates a brief acoustic run through of All Sparks from Tom (before he starts you can actually hear the percussive keyboard part from ERM=BD, before he says "OK I know what to do...").

Enjoy the music ;)

Bonus Materials
There's very few good quality videos available from this show, but the best ones are on youtube courtesy of misterpunk (thank you very much for sharing). You can check out NSBTW, Bricks and Mortar and Papillon by using the links below. In particular, I recommend watching Bricks and Mortar for the part where Tom and Chris end up side by side playing drum pads together (see photo above). It reminds me of the concert film "The Cure in Orange". Tim Pope, who directed that film and had done some of The Cure's promo films up to that point, said that it was a difficult task trying to make a visually interesting film about a band that's so relatively static when they play. He said that what he looked out for and captured were those little moments where the band interacted through gestures or knowing looks, and those were what made the movie work. This is a fine example of that in a different context, between a front-man who has always been hyperactive and jittery on stage and his more comparatively subdued counterpart behind the keys.
