Strictly speaking the Archive is all Editors all day long, with not much room left for the various side projects that have happened down the line (Magnus, Electrically Charged Boy, Y.O.U. etc etc.). However, there's a new Smith and Burrows album imminent and so I'm posting the final gig from their 2011 Funny Looking Angels tour to hopefully get you all in the mood. The
setlist contains some S&B favourites as well as covers of tracks by
Black, Longpigs, Yazoo, Razorlight, R.E.M. and even a run through of some Editors favourites.
They may have the polish and endorphin-provoking pop sounds that seem to know the most direct pathway to your heart, but as a band Smith and Burrows only seems to exist in times of extreme crisis. Their first album, around which this show is built, was released at time when Tom's other group were slowly disintegrating towards a barely avoided full stop as they attempted to prepare their fourth album. Now here we are almost a decade later, and their second record is being released in the middle of a global pandemic. One so bad that its nearest equal was about 100 years ago. If this escalation in severity continues at its current pace, we should see Smith and Burrows returning for their third album in 2031. It'll hit the stores just before the entire planet unavoidably goes off orbit due and hurtles into the sun, killing us all. I'll see you then for the fireworks. Enjoy the music ;)
