Bad news for the Italian Popkids, I'm afraid. The band were due to visit the country this week to celebrate the release of In Dream by doing some promo work at radio station RAI. This, unfortunately, won't be happening now because Mr Smith is still an unwell man (as referenced here and here). This is the official statement regarding the situation:-
"Dear everyone,
It is with deep regret that Editors are forced to cancel their trip to Rome and their performance on Radio Rai due to illness. Tom Smith has contracted a virus which has resulted in him feeling very weak, unwell and unable to travel. His doctors have ordered complete bed rest for a minimum of 1 week and all planned activities for the week have been cancelled.
This was a trip the band were very much looking forward to as they have always valued the incredible support of their Italian fans and Radio Rai. They will endeavour to return to Italy as soon as they are able to reschedule the radio concert and perform for you. Please accept the band's very sincere apologies and heartfelt appreciation of all the time and effort you have taken to create a wonderful event for Editors to play. They are devastated to have to cancel this!"
Additionally, there was a handwritten note from the man himself posted on Facebook:-
I have no insider knowledge but my take is that the general rule with Editors is that if it's cancelled, then it's serious. There are times in the past when circumstances suggested that it would have been more than appropriate to pull out of a show, but they did it anyway (see this post for an example and the reasons behind it). If you're doctor is telling you that you need on complete bed-rest, then it's time to take your foot off the gas for a little bit. No sense in entering this phase of the campaign on half power. Hope you're feeling better soon, sir. Rest up and get well, the world will still be waiting when you're upright and mobile again.
