The latest installment of the Rahi Rezvani films is now online and available to watch via Editors' youtube channel by using this link. It's shot in black and white and this time is very much less centered on getting a clear image of the band, with everything being lit in strobes.
The song itself, which debuted on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show has echoes of some 80's electronic pop, particularly Living on Video by Trans-x and also a similar keyboard sound and style to Fade to Grey by Visage. If you've never heard that Visage track, by the way, you really should. It's apparent that the title was shortened from its original full version of Life is a Fear of Falling Through All the Cracks, (see Tom's Twitter post here) although those lyrics remain intact within the chorus. It's another example of the subversive nature of Tom's writing in that he can reference some negative subject matter, in this case fear, and wrap it up for public consumption in a form you can dance to or hum along with. It reminds me of The Pet Shop Boys who used to pull that same trick off with such ease back in the 80's and 90's. All in all, it's nice to have them back in the neighbourhood.
brought to you with lots of lemming-love :) x
