Bilbao BBK Festival 11th July 2013 (video/audio)

Maybe it was the Spanish sun, the positive vibes from the crowd or just something magical the air that night? Whatever the reason, this set contains what may have been three definitive versions of Editors songs at that time. Papillon sounds absolutely huge (and the crowd go suitably nuts for it); you can hear all the various parts in Formaldehyde instead of bits and pieces getting lost in the mix and Tom throws himself so completely into Honesty that he's out of breath when they're done. The video was provided by Pawel, who's a friend to the Archive and has contributed to the blog before. Many thanks to you for making this available.

One thing to point out is that technical difficulties at the time ensure that the opening verse of Sugar is a partially instrumental where there should be the sound of Smith. Luckily the problem is resolved quickly enough so that it doesn't disrupt the flow too much. Enjoy the music ;)

Bonus Material - Interview with Tom
Unfortunately, and true to form, Merlin blocked this interview worldwide on YouTube so I'm sharing it as a download here instead of a streaming file.

An artifact from the time in Editors' history where the band were regularly pulled backwards through the fire in an attempt to discover just what went wrong with Mr Urbanowicz. If you found the band through In Dream then you'll have probably missed this, but it was a semi-regular occurrence during the TWOYL campaign. The "What happened?" question was a mainstay and I have to be honest that from a purely curious fan point of view, it was interesting at first.

Unfortunately, given the nature of what I do which is collecting and sharing everything I can grab by the band, it started to become a very uncomfortable thing to keep watching these encounters. "Cheap holidays in other people's misery", as Mr Lydon said. Of course as irksome as it was to watch as a fan, I can only imagine the joys of having to keep a poker face while you repeatedly answer questions about circumstances which almost killed the band off for good.

As a point of interest it seems to have lost its appeal for journalists recently, as it rarely came up as a subject on the VI OLENCE campaign. It's strange but watching it here while I'm updating this post just gives me a queasy feeling in my stomach, as it reminds me of all the times previously that I've watched them go under the thumbscrews in the name of full disclosure.  I believe psychologists call that conditioning.
