This is a gig from Munich in 2007 at Georg-Elser-Halle that was aired on German radio around that time. Bad news first. It's a complete broadcast, but the hour long time slot didn't allow for the whole show. Additionally, it suffers from a familiar problem that occurs whenever you involve a DJ in these things; they talk too much. The DJ in charge of this particular broadcast talks over some key moments, and when that isn't happening the songs are cut (You Are Fading is actually half the song it should be in terms on length, which is just sinful). So be prepared for that when it happens.
On the upside, the sound quality is great and the setlist is a wonderful sampler of just what it was that made them such a force on stage during the promotional run for albums 1 and 2. You'll notice that the lost b-side Banging Heads makes an appearance as song 5, having made its debut at Koko a couple of weeks earlier. It would go on to become a fixture of the live shows after that. Munich has the extended intro that grew even longer in later shows, where the audience would often swamp Tom when they started to sing along with it. Similarly, Smokers gets expanded courtesy of Tom and the piano.
It's so good in 2023 to hear Spiders again after a lengthy, lengthy absence. There's something about that song which evokes a very real sense of place and time for me when it's played. Cold October nights in city centres. There's that Peter Gabriel "Red Rain"crossover midway through, and a very smooth run into Racing Rats at the end. I always loved the way Chris would start When Anger Shows when they did it live, by playing a little bit of the chorus at high range, then a little lower and just let them loop back on themselves. Everything just hangs in the air until Ed comes in with the drums. It lasts for 40 seconds here and if you put the volume right up it feels like you're floating.

The relentless conditioning acquired through extensive touring is obvious here, as all four Editors were totally locked in as a unit for this gig. Enjoy the music, overlook the intrusive chatter ;)
